Configure HMC/IVM Server, Virtual I/O Server, and LPAR AIM Server

This procedure describes how to configure CA Virtual Assurance to manage IBM PowerVM environments. Basically, the configuration procedure consists of the following parts:

  1. Specify HMC/IVM server name and credentials.
  2. Specify the PowerVM server to be managed in the bottom LPAR AIM Servers panel.
  3. Specify Virtual I/O Server name and credentials.

Follow these steps:

  1. Click Administration, Configuration.

    The Configuration page appears.

  2. In the Management section of the Configuration pane, click SNMP.

    The SNMP page appears.

  3. Verify the SNMP settings. Add additional community strings and ports if necessary.
  4. In the Provisioning section of the Configuration pane, click IBM PowerVM Server.

The IBM PowerVM Server page appears.

  5. Select the HMC/IVM Servers panel and click add (Add) on the server toolbar.

    A configuration dialog appears.

  6. Provide the required credentials and click OK.

CA Virtual Assurance validates the credentials. If the credentials are valid, CA Virtual Assurance adds the server to the HMC/IVM panel. The connection state of the HMC or IVM Server is "ready".

  7. Select the LPAR AIM Servers panel (instance table) and click add (Add) on the server toolbar.

The user interface displays a configuration dialog. The drop-down menus for the LPAR AIM Servers, HMC/IVM Server, and Managed System are populated.

  8. Select the appropriate entries and click OK.

The LPAR AIM instance for the managed system is added to the instance table. CA Virtual Assurance starts to discover Time the PowerVM environment.

The LPAR AIM detects what Virtual I/O Servers are available on the managed system. The AIM creates records for each Virtual I/O Server and the managed system in its instance table. The states of Virtual I/O Servers are set to "invalid configuration", that is, credentials are not yet specified. The managed system instance is in "pending VIOS" state and waiting for valid VIOS credentials.

  9. Select the Virtual I/O Servers panel and click add (Add) on the server toolbar.

The user interface displays a configuration dialog. The drop-down menus for the Virtual I/O Server, HMC/IVM Server, and Managed System are populated.

  10. Select the appropriate entries, add user name and password for the Virtual I/O Server, and click OK.

CA Virtual Assurance validates the credentials. If the credentials are valid, CA Virtual Assurance adds the server to the Virtual I/O Server panel. The connection state of the Virtual I/O Server is "ready".

  11. Change to the LPAR AIM Servers panel.
  12. Click VAS--Set Creds for VIOS--ICO (Set Virtual I/O Server credentials) to apply the Virtual I/O Server credentials to the appropriate LPAR AIM instance.

The Virtual I/O Server and the managed system instance change to "ready" state.

CA Virtual Assurance is ready to manage the IBM PowerVM environment.
