The following use cases describe the handling of LPAR AIM instance entries for managed systems (POWER Servers) and Virtual I/O Servers in the Administration tab:
The LPAR AIM detects what Virtual I/O Servers are available on the managed system. The AIM creates records for each Virtual I/O Server and the managed system in its instance table. The states of Virtual I/O Servers are set to "invalid configuration", that is, credentials are not yet specified. The managed system instance is in "pending VIOS" state and waiting for valid VIOS credentials.
The user interface displays a message about the success of the operation. When you apply the Virtual I/O Server credentials to the appropriate LPAR AIM instance (
), the Virtual I/O Server and the managed system change to "ready" state.
The user interface displays a message about the failure of the operation. When you try to apply incorrect Virtual I/O Server credentials to the LPAR AIM instance (
), the Virtual I/O Server changes to "authentication failed" state. The managed system instance changes from "pending VIOS" state to "out of date" due to connection problems.
When you try to apply Virtual I/O Server credentials to the appropriate LPAR AIM instance (
), the user interface displays an error message. The message indicates that no write access community string is available.
The managed system instance appears in the instances table in "ready" state.
The new Virtual I/O Server instance appears in the instance table with "invalid configuration" state. The managed system instance changes to "pending VIOS" state and is waiting for valid VIOS credentials.
The LPAR AIM removes the corresponding record from the instance table and the managed system changes to 'ready' state.
The LPAR AIM removes the corresponding record from the instance table.
The managed system instance and associated Virtual I/O Server entries disappear from the instances table.
