Parameter Descriptions

The following provides a description of each parameter for listing scratch tapes:

SCRATCH [ mediatype ] [ poolname ]

Specifies that CA VM:Tape is to list scratch tapes. By default, CA VM:Tape lists all tapes in all scratch pools containing the media type specified as the default in the CA VM:Tape configuration. You can have CA VM:Tape list scratch tapes of any of the indicated media types. See the table in for a list of media types.

You can specify characters with a trailing asterisk for poolname to list tapes from multiple pools starting with the same characters, or you can specify a single defined scratch pool whose tapes to list. (If you want to list general scratch tapes, use the NOPOOL option instead of the poolname parameter).

Tapes that are in Deleted status, Outcoded or marked as Bad Media do not appear in the list. A LIST SCRATCH without any other parameter returns information only on the media specified as the first parameter on the DEFMEDIA record in VMTAPE CONFIG file.

[ DETail number | NODetail ]

Indicates whether to list only the total number of scratch tapes of the indicated media type from the indicated pools (NODETAIL), or to list that information and the volser of each tape and its location (DETAIL).

When you request detailed information, CA VM:Tape lists the tapes in the order it will select them for use. You can limit the number of tapes listed; if you specify number, CA VM:Tape will list the first number tapes.

[ LOCation location ]

Limits the tapes for which to list information by location. By default, CA VM:Tape lists tapes from all locations. If you specify one location or use a trailing asterisk as a pattern-matching character in location to specify multiple locations, CA VM:Tape only lists information for those tapes that are in the specified locations.

Note: For information about values for location, see LOCation location Option.

[ NOPOOL ]

Specifies that CA VM:Tape is to list tapes of the specified media type that are general scratch tapes (that is, scratch tapes that are not in any defined scratch pool). This option and the poolname parameter are mutually exclusive.
