Use the REFRESH POINTER version of this command under these conditions:

When you run the REFRESH command, it automatically notifies any ARM you are using of ARM tapes that have been scratched, either by the SCRATCH command or the TMSCLEAN utility, and the ARM updates its catalog with the new tape statuses. (Normally the SCRATCH command automatically notifies the ARM when it scratches tapes, but if the ARM was unavailable when the SCRATCH command was running, the REFRESH command is run to notify the ARM about the change of status for those tapes.)

Refresh scratch pool definitions and assignment rules each time you define a new scratch pool or change the definition of an existing scratch pool.

Note: For more information about the pointer file and the pick list files, and on scratch pool definitions and assignment rules, see the Administration Guide.
