Example Conventions

Examples are shown throughout this book to illustrate when to use commands, how to use options, or how the system responds to your entries. The examples are illustrations only and may differ slightly from what appears on your screen.

Bold characters represent user entries. If the entry is a command, it appears in lowercase letters even though you can enter commands in either upper or lower case. An example of the command you enter is as follows:

vmtape reply 1 x10002

If the entry is a record, it appears in uppercase letters. The following is an example of a record that a user enters:

SERIES SYS001 100 CART

Uppercase, nonbold characters represent system responses or prompts. The following is an example of a system response:
