Before Running VMTSDF

Before you use the VMTSDF utility, use the CMS FORMAT command with the RECOMP option to reserve a control area at the logical end of a shared minidisk. If you are also using the STAM facility and have formatted a control area on the TMC disk using the VMTSTF utility, a reserved area for VMTSDF has been included. Formatting with RECOMP is not necessary for the TMC.

For CKD devices, the number of cylinders specified must be one less than the number of cylinders specified for the minidisk in the directory. For example, if the TMC resides on a 5-cylinder minidisk, then FORMAT 1B0 B 4 (RECOMP) reserves the last cylinder.

For FBA devices, the number of blocks specified must be 8 less than the number of blocks specified for the minidisk in the directory. For example, if the TMC resides on a 1000-block minidisk, then FORMAT 1B0 B 992 (RECOMP) reserves the last 8 blocks.

If the 370 Accommodation Feature is off, the utility will automatically set it on. The utility will set the feature off again when it has completed running.
