CA VM:Tape supports two startup options to determine how CA VM:Tape recognizes tape devices; Generic Device Recognition (NOEDRSUP), and Enhanced Device Recognition (EDRSUP). The startup option you use determines how CA VM:Tape detects tape devices. This affects how CA VM:Tape allocates tape devices for MOUNT and ALLOCATE requests, matches MEDIA types to the recognized devices, and records DENSITY and MEDIA information for each saved volume in the TMC.
You must review your current configuration to determine which startup option to use. Prior to this release of CA VM:Tape, CA VM:Tape Release 2.0, for backward compatibility with previous releases of CA VM:Tape the default startup option was NOEDRSUP. With CA VM:Tape Release 2.0 the default startup option is now EDRSUP.
If you currently run CA VM:Tape with the previous default startup option of NOEDRSUP, we encourage you to review your CA VM:Tape configuration and make any changes required to implement running CA VM:Tape with the new default startup option of EDRSUP. Please contact CA Technical Support for assistance to determine the changes you will need to make to your CA VM:Tape configuration.
If you must continue to run CA VM:Tape using the NOEDRSUP startup option, you must add the NOEDRSUP startup option to the Server Startup Command tag in the VMSERVER NAMES file entry for your CA VM:Tape server.
Note: For more information about the VMSERVER NAMES file, see the CA Mainframe VM Product Manager Reference Guide. For more information about modifying the tags in the VMSERVER NAMES file entry for CA VM:Tape, see the Installation Guide.
If you are already running CA VM:Tape using the EDRSUP startup option, you should continue to do so. Your CA VM:Tape configuration will require no changes to continue running with the EDRSUP startup option.
Note: For more information about specific device types, see Special Hardware Support.
