Example Conventions

Examples are shown throughout this book to illustrate when to use commands, how to use options, or how the system responds to your entries. The examples are illustrations only and may differ slightly from what appears on your screen.

Bold characters represent user entries. If the entry is a command, it appears in lowercase letters even though you can enter commands in either upper or lower case. A command you enter looks like this:

vmtape list cart01 (long

If the entry is a record, it appears in uppercase letters. A record that a user enters looks like this:

SETUP REQUIRED AUTO

Uppercase, nonbold characters represent system responses or prompts. A system response looks like this:
