Description
If you create LINK rules with DAY and TIME options, directory links can be established only while the link is allowed.
For CA VM:Backup, you must have a LINK rule for user ID VMBACKUP with the NOPASS option. CA VM:Backup does not use passwords.
For earlier releases of CA VM:Backup, when CA VM:Backup is initialized with the CA VM:Backup NODIAG84 configuration file record in effect, and you want CA VM:Backup to back up minidisks that do not have minidisk link passwords, you must use the NOPASS option on the LINK rule to allow CA VM:Backup to link. With the NOPASS option, the link is granted regardless of whether a minidisk password exists.
CA VM:Secure handles CP LINK commands issued by CP DIAGNOSE X’08’ with the prompt suppression bit set, X’20’ in high–order byte of Ry register, by:
- Allowing the link if the NOPASS option is specified on the LINK rule, or the LINK rule is a conditional access and the target password is ALL.
- Deferring to CP if the LINK rule is a conditional accept. This has the following effect:
- If the issuer does not have an OPTION LNKNOPAS statement in its directory entry, CP returns the appropriate return code indicating which password is required.
- If the issuer does have an OPTION LNKNOPAS statement in its directory entry, CP accepts the link request.
- If the LINK rule specifies the LOGPASS option, CP still returns the appropriate return code for the link password required (READ, WRITE, MULT).
Note: For more information about CP DIAGNOSE X’08’, see the appropriate CP Programming Services manual.
Examples
- The following rule in the LUCY user rules file allows all users who are members of all security groups to link to the LUCY 191 minidisk in a read–only mode without specifying a password:
ACCEPT * LINK 191 RR (GROUP NOPASS
- The following rules in the NANCY user rules file allow all users except MIKE to link to the NANCY 191 minidisk in read–only mode:
ACCEPT * LINK 191 RR (LOGPASS
REJECT MIKE LINK 191
The LOGPASS option prompts all requesting users (except MIKE) for their own logon password and verifies the password before the link is permitted.
- The following rule in the system override rules file prevents all users from linking to any minidisk in multiple write mode:
REJECT * LINK * MW
- The following rule prevents a user rule from rejecting a link request from user ID VM:BACKUP
ACCEPT VMBACKUP LINK (NOPASS HISTORY
