Putting Several User IDs on Hold at the Same Time

To place many user IDs on hold at the same time, you must build a control file. In the control file, you must add the name of each user ID that you want placed on hold. Next, use the MULTIPLE command to hold the user IDs listed in the control file.

Large organizations with many users, such as universities, use this method to hold user IDs easily.

To hold several user IDs at one time with this method

  1. Create a control file.

Note: For information about how to create a control file, see Control File Records in MULTIPLE Command in the chapter "Command Reference" in the Reference Guide.

  2. Enter the MULTIPLE HOLD command with the CMS file name and file type of the control file. For example, if you have a control file named USERS with the filetype FILE, enter the following command:
    vmdirect multiple hold users file
