Easy-to-Use Features
CA SRM takes the guesswork out of storage resource management by providing these easy-to-use features:
- Data Collection—Gather valuable data about storage objects and groups, collect information on file systems and storage-intensive applications, and centralize views of collected information.
- Agentless Data Collection—Access high-level information on managed storage assets using an agentless data collection for Windows servers. Using the Windows Management Interface (WMI), data is collected remotely without installing any agent software on these machines. As part of the base product, agentless data collection collects basic host information such as volumes, physical disks, and partitions. You can also use this method with CIFS and NFS mount points to collect file level information.
- Two-phase Data Collection—Executes data collection for the Storage Volume Controller in two phases.
- Independent Data Collection—A proxy server collects raw data and executes on the managed server without any application server database access.
- Local Data Collection—The File Transfer Agents retrieves the data from the managed object and updates and executes the collected data on the Application server database.
- Monitoring—Collect data on storage objects at predefined intervals and quickly track storage capacity, allocation, and usage. Rapidly calculate storage availability and proactively identify storage issues before problems occur. Customize the collected data specifically for your environment.
- Alerts—Receive notification of exception‑based events when a predefined storage event has occurred or a threshold has been reached. An alert can be issued to the computer display, email, pager, remote printout, SNMP traps, Windows event logs, and other facilities.
- Application Support—Use with backup and recovery solutions such as CA ARCServe Backup, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), Legato NetWorker, and Veritas NetBackup. Support is also provided for Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration application servers as well as Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, DB2, and Oracle database engines.
- Reporting—Report across distributed and mainframe environments and perform on-demand queries using a powerful query engine.
- Trend Analysis—Structure intelligent data to reflect storage use, trends, and availability patterns, forecast upcoming storage requirements using historical data, and pinpoint exception cases.
- Automation—Eliminate manual tasks using automated services and increase staff time for revenue-generating processes by automatically taking corrective action.
- Scheduling—Launch pre-configured processing schedules and automatically trigger events based on predefined schedules.
- Integration—Leverage third‑party applications and integrate with enterprise network and system management frameworks.
- Backup Driving—Collect a list of files to be backed up to your registered CA ARCServe Backup servers using policy-driven backup services in CA SRM.
