If the device type definitions supplied in XDEVTYPS in the samples cannot be used as is, it is necessary to have good working knowledge of how the printer and the protocol converter work to change these definitions. Similarly, defining more complex new definitions as FORMDEFs with overlays, new fonts, and other definitions, which make it necessary to specify a new specific printer command, does require some knowledge of the devices involved.
After the device types are set up to work properly with the devices used, more simple definitions such as PAGEDEFs with a new size or line spacing, can be created without much knowledge of the devices.
