How to Use a Different Version of the JRE

The CA Service Catalog installation program automatically installs the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The Support Matrix lists the JRE version that is installed by each version of CA Service Catalog. We recommend that you use the JRE version installed by CA Service Catalog. However, if necessary, you can configure CA Service Catalog to use a different JRE version, as follows.

Perform these steps on all CA Service Catalog computers in your environment, including CA Workflow computers, if applicable.

  1. Install the replacement JRE version.

For example, install the JRE version from www.java.com or one of its affiliated sites.

  2. Open the Service Delivery Command Prompt from the CA Service Catalog section of the Windows Start menu, and enter the following command:
    ant upgrade-jre

  3. Close all CA Service Catalog Windows services when prompted. The services are CA Service Catalog and CA Service Accounting.
  4. Enter the path name where you installed the new JRE version.
  5. Enter the new JRE version number, for example, 1.7.0_40.
  6. Wait for the Catalog system to verify that it supports the new version.

Note: If you receive a failure message, try using a different version that CA Service Catalog supports.

  7. Close the command prompt.
  8. Restart all CA Service Catalog Windows services.
  9. Verify that you can log in to CA Service Catalog.
