Default Business Units and Catalog Access

By default, users and accounts can request or subscribe to items only in the catalog of their parent business unit.

Example:

Review the following example of a four-level hierarchy of business units, in a default configuration:

Service Provider (SP) is the top-level business unit.

A is a child business unit of SP.

B is a child business unit of A.

C is a child business unit B.

In linear form, you can express the relationship as follows: SP-->A-->B-->C. In this structure, the following apply:

• Users and accounts in A can request or subscribe to items in the catalog of SP only, because A is a child of SP
• Users and accounts in B can request or subscribe to items in the catalog of A only, because B is a child of A.
• Users and accounts in C can request or subscribe to items in the catalog of B only, because C is a child of B.

To change the default behavior, use the following [set the BCSC variable for your book] configuration settings:

• The System configuration settings named Use Service Provider Configuration Only and Use Service Provider Catalog Only
• The Catalog configuration setting named Pass Through Catalog
