Take a Snapshot of a Reserved Virtual Machine

A snapshot is a record of a virtual machine at a certain point in time. Snapshots let Reservation Manager users restore VMs to their previous state without contacting an administrator. Snapshots are useful in development and testing environments. Because administrators can control whether taking snapshots is allowed, snapshots may not be available at all sites.

Note: Snapshots are available only for VMware virtual machines.

In addition to enabling the snapshot feature, the administrator may have specified a maximum number of snapshots (up to 10) that you can take of a VM.

You can also delete snapshots and restore a VM to a previous state when a snapshot was taken.

The View your reservations link on the Reservation Manager home page lets you take a snapshot of a virtual machine. The link displays your reservations in a table. Click a Reservation ID link to display the Reservation Details pane.

Snapshot options are available in the Reserved Systems section at the bottom of the Reservation Details pane. Use the following options on the Actions menu for snapshots:

Take Snapshot

Opens a dialog with fields for snapshot name and optional description.

The maximum number of characters for the name is 80. The name can contain the following special characters, which are supported by vCenter, vSphere, and this product:

!@#$%^&*() +=-:;"'`{}|?\_<>/ []%

Double and single quotation marks must be escaped when used in the name.
