The Create a virtual machine link on the Reservation Manager home page opens a wizard that lets you perform the following actions.
Note: Some of the following options may not be available at all sites. The system administrator might have disabled them.
If you need more than one disk, click the Add Disk button. The virtual machine is created with the additional disks, but the disks are not formatted automatically. Use Windows disk management to format them.
This page may also show storage tiers next to each disk if your administrator enabled this feature. Storage tiers are classifications for the data stores associated with each disk. Tiers generally indicate different levels of performance of the data store on which the VM and its hard drives are created.
This page may also show an hourly rate per system if your administrator implemented the chargeback feature. If you change anything in the reservation before submitting it, you can recalculate the total to see the new hourly rate.
This page may also show a Network Connections area where you can select from a list of available networks. The administrator may have enabled this feature, which is useful for sites that use static IP addresses. This area may include VLANs that you can associate with virtual NICs.
Note: The Network Connections option does not apply to Hyper-V virtual machines.
This page may also show a Network Adapter Details table where you can select from a list of available NICs. The administrator may have enabled NIC selection when you create or modify a reservation. Use the Actions menu to create new NICs, remove NICs from a reservation, or edit a NIC. If a reservation has only one NIC, you cannot remove it.
Both options may also let you reserve a system with no expiration date and time. The administrator controls whether unlimited end times are enabled, so this feature may not be available at all sites.
Times start and end on the hour, and the end time must be at least one hour after the start time. If you specify an end time that exceeds the number of days for which you can reserve a virtual machine, Reservation Manager rejects your request.
Lets you set the password for the Windows administrator or Linux root accounts.
Note: This field does not appear by default. The site administrator controls whether users can set the administrator or root password.
Displays the field if the administrator password is present. Enter the same password to verify it.
(Optional) Defines the ID that associates the request with a specific project. This field is useful for evaluating requests and for allocating or charging costs to a specific project.
The Reservation Manager administrator can configure this field so that it is required. In this case, the Reservation Manager displays a corresponding note in the information bar. You can submit your reservation request only after you enter a project ID. The Reservation Manager does not validate the entered value.
(Optional) Defines additional information you want to provide about the request.
(Optional) Defines the email address to which Reservation Manager sends notifications regarding this request. You can override any default value with a different address. Separate multiple email addresses with a semicolon. Reservation Manager sends email notifications when a reserved system is available for use and when the expiration of the reservation period is approaching.
(Optional) Defines a name for this request so that you can use it as a template for future requests.
(Optional) Defines a description for the template.
