Add a Windows or Linux System

When capacity is overused on a system, you can provision a new Windows or Linux system to balance loads. When you add a physical (bare metal) system, you can optionally install the CA Software Delivery agent and CCA agents on the system with the operating system.

Follow these steps:

  1. Click Resources, right-click Data Center in the Explore tree, and select Provisioning, Provision Windows/Linux Server.

The Windows/Linux Provisioning via Software Delivery panel opens.

  2. Enter the system attributes for the computer you are adding in the General section.
  3. Select the Domain and Scalability servers and OS image to use in the Software Delivery section.
  4. (Optional) Click Advanced to set non-default OS Installation Parameters.
  5. Select the software package group from the Template Name drop-down list.
  6. Click OK.

The panel submits a request to provision the image to the target machine.

The imaging process starts on the client computer. When the process is complete, the computer is properly discovered, classified, and added to the Explore tree. You can view the events of the imaging process in the dashboard. You can also generate a report on the imaging job.

Note: Imaging takes time, so you should expect a delay during operating system installation. For more efficient discovery, you can adjust the discovery retry time or the interval in the caimgconf.cfg file located at: install_path\CA\productname\conf.
