Projections are dotted trend lines that are displayed on line trend charts to predict future performance metrics. Each prediction is based on trends in recent values.
A projection plots the trend in future values for a selected metric, extrapolating from the metric data that is requested in the view. Projections are displayed as broken trend lines to indicate that they are based on estimated values. They are helpful for capacity planning purposes, and they also help you determine whether current performance is within normal bounds.
By default, each projection includes a future time frame equivalent to one time the current time frame. As a result, if you are looking at the “Last Hour” time frame, the projection applies to projected values for the next hour in the future, for example.
For views that support projections, you can choose to show or hide the projection data by editing the view settings.
Note: Projections do not apply to error metrics. Errors are a function of the hardware, either the physical line or the interfaces. The permissible error count on a physical interface is exactly 0 (zero).
