The Calendar Heat Chart - Interface Discards (in the outbound or inbound direction) assigns severity ratings to inbound interface discard rates and color-codes each severity category. The chart then plots the severity using colored blocks on a calendar table. You can modify severity values to reflect your unique environment.
Calendar Heat Chart views help engineers and managers identify patterns in metrics. Identifying such patterns can be a critical step in locating the source of performance issues that might appear to be intermittent.
Each reported discard is a packet that the reporting interface threw out. The sending host must retransmit such packets if a reliable protocol such as TCP is used to send the data end-to-end. Interface discards are typically the result of congested queues serving the interface. Use this view to find patterns in interface discard metrics for each hour, day, and week of the month.
By default, the Calendar Heat Chart - Interface Discards chart includes the following information:
Identifies the managed item that was the source of the performance data. If an administrator defined an alias for the device item, the alias is displayed. Otherwise, the discovered device name is displayed.
Is the name of the interface.
Is the total number of discarded packets for outbound traffic on the interface during the reporting period.
Is the total number of discarded packets for inbound traffic on the interface during the reporting period.
You can edit a calendar chart view to change the title, the threshold values for color zones, or the managed item context.
Follow these steps:
The Settings dialog opens.
Appears in the title bar of the view.
Appears just underneath the title.
Default: The type of managed item whose data is displayed in the view.
Lets you select the time format for the chart, either 12 hours or 24 hours.
Lets you change the starting value of each heat zone. The defaults are based on IT industry standards for performance.
Units are specific to the current metric; for example, the default Red Zone Start value for CPU utilization is 70 %.
Lets you select the weekday on which to base the business week pattern-matching algorithm. The pattern is adjusted to count the selected day and four days after it.
Default: Monday.
Data from the new item will be shown in the view.
Note: The availability of these options depends on your user account role rights.
The view is refreshed to reflect your updates.
