Run the Console Tool

Two extra steps are required for upgrading a deployment that switches from using CA NetQoS Performance Center to using CA Performance Center. Before you upgrade the NFA console or stand-alone software, run the Console tool as described in this topic, then unregister.

The release 9.2.0 Console tool creates the admin user, which is required for unregistering successfully. If you unregister without running the Console tool, the unregistration is only partially successful. Any attempt to register again fails--whether you attempt to register with CA NetQoS Performance Center or CA Performance Center.

Be careful not to delete the admin user. Attempts to register again fail if you run the Console tool, but you delete the admin user from the User List page in the CA NetQoS Performance Center Console. The admin user makes your NFA console registration-ready.

If you are unsure whether you will make a future switch to CA Performance Center, run the Console tool and leave the admin user in place. Running the tool does not harm your deployment.

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the NFA console or stand-alone server as a user with administrator privileges for the server and for CA Network Flow Analysis.
  2. Verify that the consoletool-exe.jar file is on the NFA console or stand-alone server--for example, on the Desktop. If you do not have this file, download the NFA console ISO file for release 9.2.0.

Download and use the Console tool file for the current release. Do not use an older version of the file.

  3. Double-click the consoletool-exe.jar file in Windows Explorer or enter the following string at a command prompt:
    java -jar consoletool-exe.jar

To launch the Console tool by double-clicking the file, Windows Explorer must have the correct association for .jar files.

The ConsoleInfoToPollerTool<yyyy--mm--dd>.log file opens when the Console tool completes--whether the tool completes successfully or fails. The log is saved in the <install_path>\Reporter\Logs\ directory.

The Console tool cannot complete successfully if the system has undeployed interface aggregations or unscheduled merge or delete interface tasks. If the tool does not complete successfully, note the error messages in the log file and contact CA Support.
