Display a Node

You can access the display of a particular node (resource) or, in the case of multiple resource types, display a resource selection list to choose a resource to display.

To display a node

  1. Type N at the command prompt on SNA : Diagnosis Menu, and complete the following fields:
    Node Name

Specifies the name of the node.

Limits: Up to 17 characters long and can include the network qualifier (for example, netid.nodename or *.nodename).

    Link Name

(Optional) Specifies the INMC link name of the region that the data is sourced from.

    Press Enter.

Note: If the resource selection list appears, enter S next to the resource that you want to display.

The resulting display depends on the number and type of resources in the network:

APPN resource or a session-oriented resource

For example, an application (APPL) or a cross-domain resource (CDRSC), the NCS : Resource Display appears. The format of the NCS : Resource Display varies, depending on the resource type.

    Directory Entry

The NCS : APPN Directory Entry Display appears.

    Neither of the above

The NCS : Node Display appears. This is a graphical representation that varies, depending on the resource type. This display shows a maximum of five levels of hierarchy.

Resource Selection

The NCS : Resource Selection list appears when there are multiple resource types, as in the case of an interchange node, for example XYZ1VTM1.

Note: For information about the fields displayed on the NCS : Resource Selection List, press F1 (Help).

Note: The information displayed can vary, depending on the VTAM level your system is running on, and on the types of resources available in your network.

To display a particular resource, enter S beside the resource name on the selection list. The NCS : Node Display or NCS : Resource Display panel for the selected resource displays.

Display APPN and Session-oriented Resources

The format of the NCS :  Resource Display varies, depending on the resource type, which can be any of the following:

The following is an example for a host CP.

RTP Pipe Example

The display for an RTP pipe lets you determine how busy it is and what applications are driving the network for this resource. Network problems such as queueing and path switching are highlighted. Flow control problems are shown by the ARB mode and back pressure reasons. The following panel is an example:

Display Related Resources

If a panel lists additional resources, you can find out more about them.

To display a related resource

  1. Enter S on the selection list beside the resource.

One of the following panels appears:

Display Native VTAM Information

The VTAMDisp command provides an extended native VTAM display of the resource.

To display this additional information, press the VTAMDisp function key.

Display a Directory Entry from the Resource List

If the NCS : Resource Selection List contains a directory entry, and you select this resource type from the list, the NCS : APPN Directory Entry Display panel appears.

This panel also appears if you select option AD - Display APPN Directory Information from the NCS : APPN Menu.

Display Non-APPN Resources

The NCS : Node Display is presented for subarea network resources. This display appears when the specified network resource is a part of the subarea hierarchy.
