Control NTS Session Tracing

Tracing can be requested by resource name so that with a single request all sessions with a particular resource, such as an application program, can be traced. NTS provides the NTS : Control Functions menu to start and stop traces, list current traces, and modify a trace.

Access NTS : Control Functions Menu

To control session tracing

  1. Enter the /SNASESS panel path shortcut.

    The NTS : Primary Menu appears.

  2. Enter C at the prompt.

    The NTS : Control Functions menu appears.

This menu contains the following options:

1 - List Resource Traces

Displays a list of traced resource names/status.

2 - Start Trace for Resource

Starts tracing for a specified resource.

3 - Start Trace for Resource Type

Starts global tracing for resources of a specified type.

4 - Stop Trace for Resource

Stops tracing for a specified resource.

5 - Stop Trace for Resource Type

Stops global tracing for resources of a specified type.

6 - Modify Sessions for a Resource

Provides a full-screen options panel to modify the processing of all active sessions with the resource specified.

This menu contains the following fields:

Resource Name

Specifies the entire name of the resource for which tracing is to start or stop.

Resource Type

Specifies the type of resource:

LU

Global tracing of all logical units.

PU

Global tracing of all physical units.

CDRM

Global tracing of all cross-domain resource managers.

List Resource Traces

To list resources and their trace status

  1. Enter 1 at the command prompt on the NTS : Control Functions panel.

    The NTS : Resource Trace List appears.

Modify Session Processing

This NTS : Session Modify panel is used to modify session logging and tracing options. These correspond to the NTSMOD command options.

To modify processing for a session

  1. Enter M beside a session in the NTS : Session List.

    The NTS : Session Modify panel appears.
