How You Capture Device Information

You can use the application program interface (API) to capture information about the status of your devices, including whether the device is currently allocated, the name of the volume mounted on a device, and the TPCF preferencing status for the device.

By capturing this information in a log or on a screen, you can perform a number of useful tasks, such as:

• Trace significant allocation events
• Measure device usage for system tuning
• Record statistics in a historical log

You can call the API from an external program, or you can use the sample display routine to view the device information at a TSO session.
