5.4.8 ICMP Statistics File (TCPICX)

The ICMP Statistics (TCPICX) file quantifies ICMP protocol
statistics. The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP)
allows communication between destination host and the source
host to report errors in processing the datagrams. ICMP is
an integral part of IP.

ICMP protocol is used in situations like failure of datagram
to reach its destination, lack of buffering capacity in a
gateway to forward datagrams, and ability of a gateway to
forward the datagram on a shorter route.

This file is derived from ICMP and/or IPv6 ICMP statistics
sections of the SMF record type 119 subtype 5 (TCP/IP
Statistics record).

The following sections describe the file's organization, list
the data elements maintained, and provide usage hints.
