CA JCLCheck recognizes certain IBM, CA, and user programs as utilities, capable of performing JCL-like functions directed by control statements. It checks for required DD statements and optionally reads and interprets the control cards.

You can control the recognition of utility programs and their control statements with an installation-modifiable table. See the CA JCLCheck Macro Library member JCLUTIL for supplied verb tables for IEHPROGM and IDCAMS. See JCLUPT CSECT for programs that you need to consider for utility programs. In most cases, CA JCLCheck cannot do runtime checking when you use generic data set names. This results in messages such as:
CAY6079W DATA SET dsname SPECIFIED AS OLD OR SHR, BUT CANNOT BE FOUND.
