Glossary Definition
A subroutine, consisting of the glossary definition for the file, is supplied by CA to enable CA JARS Wizard to access a primary file.
The glossary definition consists of the following entries:
- FIELD NAME - The name of the field. Each field in the record is assigned a field name. References to the field can be made using this name in any CA JARS Wizard statement.
The field name is also used as the default column heading when printing the field.
- START POSITION - The starting position of the field within the record.
- LENGTH - The length of the field.
- FORMAT - The format of the field. CA JARS Wizard allows the following formats:
- C
-
character
- N
-
numeric, zoned decimal
- B
-
binary
- P
-
packed decimal
- H
-
hexadecimal
- SCALING - The number of decimal positions in the field, if any. The format must be N, P, or B.
- PRINT CHARACTERS - The number of print positions that should be allocated for the field. If omitted, the default assumed is the number of print positions required by the length specification and format of the field. For example, a field defined as 4 bytes binary is automatically allocated at least 10 print positions for the maximum decimal value it can contain. Thus, if you expect the field to contain less than the maximum capacity of the field, the number of print characters should be specified in the LIST statement.
- Time or Date Attributes
Date Attributes - The internal format of the date field.
- Gregorian Format
-
YY/MM/DD
MM/DD/YY
DD/MM/YY
YYMMDD
MMDDYY
DDMMYY
- Julian Format
-

Time Attributes - The format for display of the time field.
- HM

- HS

- MS

- HH
-
Displayed as hundredths of hours
- KH

- KM

- Other Attributes - Additional specifications can be defined in the glossary. These are discussed in the "Appendix B" chapter.
You can display the file and glossary definitions included in each of the products.
See the "Appendix D" chapter for a description of the product glossaries. The "Sample Usage" chapter provides information on creating a listing of a CA JARS Wizard glossary.
Note: Refer to the CA JARS Installation Guide for a listing of the file and glossary names available by CA JARS Wizard.
