This guide contains all of the information needed to use CA JARS Wizard. However, you are expected to have some familiarity with your CA product including the files it creates and its operational characteristics.
Note: Throughout this guide, examples are provided to illustrate various control statements. Many of these examples contain sample data.Your data may differ from the data that is displayed in this guide.
CA JARS Wizard is a generalized, computational report generator used to process data produced by other CA products. User-designed reports can be created to display detail, summary, and exception system information in minutes.
File handling characteristics include:
Predefined (glossary-defined) files can be processed.
The contents of input files cannot be modified; all update functions require a user-specified output file. Output from product processing can be written to a new data file.
Data from one file can be merged with another.
While processing data, this product can:
CA JARS Wizard allows great flexibility in report design. Based on the available report types, you can create your own reports by indicating what data you want used and in what format it is to be displayed. The following report types can be produced:
print one line of data from each record. They can include group totals after each set of related records.
suppress the printing of detail lines and print only the group total lines.
Exception reports can be of any length, but are designed to be short representations of records that meet unusual conditions. For example, you may want to print all job steps that have a cancellation code indicating operator intervention. This product can produce any number of these reports in a single run.
Ranked record reports show summary records ranked by user-specified criteria. For example, an installation may consolidate all of the job step records for a week into a single summary record for a client user department. These summary records can then be listed by user-specified criteria, such as total run time, printer forms usage, etc. CA JARS Wizard can produce up to ten ranked reports in a single run.
Calendar reports display summary data in calendar format. One page is generated for each month. A maximum of eight summary data fields can be displayed for each day.
Plot reports are graphic representations of numeric values.
Cross-tabulation reports print tables of user-specified data.
Detailed descriptions of this product and instructions for its use are described in the remaining chapters of this guide.
