Remote Control Host Icon

The Remote Control Host icon is accessed from the CA ITCM Common Application Framework Service (DSM Service) icon, which is visible in the taskbar, or system tray. The host runs in the Common Application Framework (CAF), and you can access the various host options from the DSM Service icon's context menu. For example, you can select the Display As Separate Icon option to display a separate icon just for the host.

The Remote Control Host icon lets you see the state—connected, idle, or locked—of the host at any time.

Note: Remote Control may be installed without the system tray icon.

The following table lists the host options that you can display by right-clicking the host icon:

Menu Option

Description

Launch Remote Control Viewer

Opens the Remote Control viewer and provides the ability to start a remote control session.

Note: This option is available when the Remote Control viewer component is installed along with the host. If not installed, double-clicking the host icon displays the DSM Properties - Remote Control dialog instead.

Start Recording

Invokes the Start Manual Recording dialog, which lets you record a local session.

Properties

Opens the DSM Properties - Remote Control dialog, letting you configure the operation of the host.

Display As Separate Icon

Toggles the independent display of the Remote Control host icon.

RemoteMachineName\UserLoginName

Establishes and identifies the name of the remote machine connected along with the user’s login ID for identification purposes. This option is visible after a successful connection to the host machine is established.

This menu option also provides an additional sub-menu that permits the host to control the following functions with the viewer:

Chat

Invokes a chat session.

Disconnect

Disconnects this particular viewer.

Has Control

Enables or disables this viewer’s ability to remote control the host machine.

Note: This option is useful when using the product for training purposes, giving control to a selected viewer in order to demonstrate a concept to other viewers in the virtual classroom. The Has Control option is also useful for meeting mode connections.

Chat to All Connected Users

Invokes a chat session with all connected users when one or more users are connected.

Disconnect All

Ends all established sessions when one or more users are connected.

Give Control to All Viewers

Grants control to all connected users if their connection type permits.

Remove Control from All Viewers

Removes the ability for the remote users to control the host when one or more users are connected and at least one of the established sessions has been granted the Has Control option.
