Subgroup an Asset Group

CA APM lets you divide an asset group into individual assets when you want to manage assets in the group separately. When you subgroup an asset group, the product removes one asset from the group (decreases the group quantity by one) and creates one new individual asset. The product copies the information for the group to the new asset, except for Serial Number, Alt Asset ID, Host Name, DNS Name, MAC Address, relationships, and linked objects.

To subgroup an asset group

  1. Click Asset.
  2. Search to find the list of available assets.
  3. Click the asset that you want to subgroup.

The Asset Details page for the selected asset appears.

  4. Click Subgroup.

Note: The Subgroup button appears only for an asset with a quantity greater than one.

The product creates an individual asset and displays the Asset Details for the asset. The Asset Name consists of the original asset group name preceded by SUBGROUPED FROM. The Quantity field shows a value of one (1).

  5. Specify a unique Asset Name and add or modify data for the individual asset.
  6. Click Save.

The individual asset is saved. The quantity of the original asset group decreases by one.
