Upgrade from Federation Manager r12 on Solaris

These instructions are for GUI and Console Mode installations on Solaris systems. You do not need to deactivate your partnerships before upgrading.

The steps for the two modes are the same, with the following exceptions for Console Mode:

Important!

Do not install Federation Manager on a system where the SiteMinder Policy Server or Secure Proxy Server (SPS) is already installed. Installing Federation Manager on a SiteMinder system could negatively impact the existing SiteMinder installation.

Do not install Federation Manager on a system where there is an existing Apache Web Server or Apache Tomcat Server.

Do not install SiteMinder or the Secure Proxy Server on a system where Federation Manager is installed, as this might have an adverse effect on Federation Manager.

Run the r12.1 Federation Manager installer (ca-fedmgr-12.1-sol.bin) to upgrade Federation Manager. The installer is located on the Technical Support site.

Important! Do not run the upgrade as the root user. If you try to install as root, the installation aborts and you receive an error message. Instead, create a new user account with the default shell as ksh to install Federation Manager.

To locate installation kits on the Support site

  1. Click Technical Support.
  2. Log onto CA Support Online.
  3. Click Download Center.
  4. Search the Download Center for the installation kit you need.

To upgrade Federation Manager

  1. Exit all applications that are running.
  2. Depending on your permissions, you may need to add executable permissions to the installation file by running the chmod command, for example:

    chmod +x ca-fedmgr-12.1-sol.bin

  3. Navigate to the folder where you plan to run the installation.
  4. Copy ca-fedmgr-12.1-sol.bin to the folder.
  5. Enter one of the following commands in a command window:

    The installation wizard starts.

  6. Go through the installation.
  7. Review the installation settings and click Install (GUI mode) or enter Y to install (Console mode).

The Federation Manager installation program runs.

  8. After the installation is complete, restart the Federation Manager services, as follows:
    1. Open a command window.
    2. Run the following scripts:

      federation_mgr_home/fedmanager.sh stop

      federation_mgr_home/fedmanager.sh start

When you run the fedmanager.sh script, it sources the Federation Manager environment script, ca_federation_env.ksh.

Note: Do not stop and start the services as the root user. You must be a non-root user.

Note: You do not need to run the Federation Manager Configuration wizard as part of the upgrade process.

Actions to Take if an Upgrade Error Occurs

In case of DB Upgrade failure, Federation Manager displays an error message that instructs you to run the policy_store_upgrade script. The upgrade script (policy_store_upgrade.sh) is located in federation_mgr_home/install_config_info.

If you experience other problems during the installation, review the installation log file CA_Federation_Manager_InstallLog.log and the upgrade log file CA_Federation_policy_store_upgrade.log. Both files are the directory federation_mgr_home/install_config_info.
