Preserve Layout When Laying Out a Diagram

Earlier, changing the layout of a few objects in a large diagram moved the selected and unselected objects to fit the new layout. Now, using the Layout in Place option, you can change the layout of a few objects, and retain the unselected objects in their respective locations.

To preserve the layout when automatically laying out a diagram

  1. Open a diagram and select the objects that you want to lay out.
  2. Click Diagram, Layout, Layout in Place.
  3. Click Diagram, Layout and select the layout option of your choice.

The objects are rearranged per the selected layout option, in relation to the center point of the selected objects. The unselected objects are retained in the same location.

Note: This setting is specific to a diagram; it does not automatically apply to all diagrams in a model. This setting forces any unselected objects to remain in the same location, although they overlap with other objects.
