The Domain Editor is used for viewing and managing domains. When you are working in the Domain Editor in either a physical-only model or the physical side of a logical/physical model, you are using the Domain Editor in physical edit mode.
The Navigation Grid and its toolbar are at the top section of the editor:
PreviousPositions the editor on the previous domain in the Navigation Grid.
NextPositions the editor on the next domain in the Navigation Grid.
SortSorts the domains by alphabetic, reverse alphabetic, or domain hierarchy. You select the method you want using the drop-down menu that opens after you click the Sort button. Visual cues are provided for how the domain list is currently sorted:
Specifies that the domain list is sorted in alphabetic order.
Specifies that the domain list is sorted in reverse alphabetic order.
Specifies that the domain list is sorted in domain hierarchy.
NewCreates a new domain that becomes the current object in the editor.
DeleteDeletes the selected domain.
Resets all properties to restore inheritance for the selected domain.
HelpOpens online help for the editor.
Lets you filter a very large list of domains in the Navigation Grid to quickly locate the domain for which you need to view or define properties.
Displays the physical domain name. You can change the domain name in this field using in-place editing.
Displays the current parent domain. You can change the domain using the drop-down control.
Specifies the physical data type for the domain. You can change the data type using the drop-down. The drop-down list contains the data types related to the current domain.
Specifies whether the domain is anchored to a column or a variable. This column is enabled only for a DB2 LUW user defined data type.
Specifies the schema associated with the domain.
Specifies whether the domain is of distinct type. Only the domains that have this check box selected will be included in the Forward Engineering script.
Specifies whether the domain should only appear in the physical model. Select this check box if you want the selected domain to appear in the physical model only. Clear this check box if you want the selected domain in the logical model.
Note: When you select or clear the check box in the Navigation Grid, your selection is automatically reflected in the Physical Only check box in the General tab.
Consolidates most of the information about a domain into a single page. Use the horizontal and vertical splitters to rearrange the area in which to edit. The Domain Parent list contains a toolbar that lets you sort the domains. If you only need to edit domain physical name, domain parent, physical data type, or the Physical Only flag, you can do so in the Navigation Grid. However, if you need to inherit, override, or harden a domain's physical name, or inherit or override a domain's associated column name or Physical Only setting, you can perform this within the General tab. Visual cues are provided for the Physical Name, Column Name, and Physical Only options so that you can see the inheritance setting for each:
InheritSpecifies to inherit the domain physical name, column name, or Physical Only setting.
OverrideSpecifies to override inheritance for the domain physical name, column name, or Physical Only setting.
HardenSpecifies to harden the domain physical name.
Lets you view and update database-specific information about the domain including physical data type and null option. All properties defined in this tab are inheritable.
Note: The name of this tab changes dynamically depending on the target server of the model.
Lets you specify a validation rule and default value for a domain. You can select a validation rule and default value using the drop-down controls, or select the check box to use an inherited constraint or default value.
Lets you enter text that provides comments about the domain. Use the toolbar to cut, copy, or paste text, open the Text Editor, or check spelling. The comment serves as internal documentation for your model.
Lets you view where the domain is used in the model.
Lets you enter user-defined property values for the domain.
Lets you view history and view or enter user notes.
