The application development process typically begins with a logical model that captures business requirements. Then, to transition from one design layer to another, for example, from a logical model to a physical model, you derive a new model. In this scenario, each model represents a design layer in the application development process.
As the design layers grow, the source of information for model objects is important. When you derive a model, the source and derived model are linked, and you can review the source of information for the derived model objects. You can also specify another source for a model. A model can have one or more model sources. Each model source contributes a set of objects to a target model.
You can use the Add Model Source wizard to link two independent models and specify that one model is a source for the other, or specify that a model has multiple sources.
When you add a model source, the source and target model are linked automatically across design layers. This link is maintained and you can synchronize a model with a source.
