Define a SQL Server 2008 or 2012 Server Audit Specification

Use the SQL Server Server Audit Specification Editor in a SQL Server 2008 or 2012 physical model to define a SQL Server Audit Specification object using the SQL Server Audit feature. The object defines which actions on the server instance to audit and for whom.

To define a SQL Server 2008 or 2012 server audit specification

  1. Click Target - SQL Server, Server, Audit Specifications on the Model menu.

    The SQL Server Server Audit Specification Editor opens.

  2. Select the server audit specification in the Navigation Grid that you want to define and work with the following options:

    Note: Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object on the toolbar to create a new server audit specification. Use the Enter filter text box to filter a very large list of server audit specifications to quickly locate the one that you want to define.

    Name

    Specifies the name of the server audit specification. You can change the name of the server audit specification in this field.

    Server Audit

    Specifies the name of the audit to which this specification applies.

    Enabled

    Specifies to enable the collection of records of server actions for auditing.

    Generate

    Generates SQL during forward engineering. Clear the check box if you do not want to generate SQL.

  3. Click the General tab and work with the following options:
    Audit Action Groups

    Displays the available groups of server level auditable actions. Select each group that you want to audit.

  4. (Optional) Click the Comment tab and enter any comments that you want to associate with the server audit specification.
  5. (Optional) Click the UDP tab to work with user-defined properties for the server audit specification.
  6. (Optional) Click the Notes tab to view history information and view or edit user notes.
  7. Click Close.

    The server audit specification is defined and the SQL Server Server Audit Specification Editor closes.
