Create a Data Warehouse Source

You use the Data Source Object Editor to manually define data sources or import source information from an existing database, script file, .erwin file either locally or from a mart, or a comma-delimited flat file. The dialog is available in a physical model when you select the Data Movement check box on the General tab in the Model Editor.

To create a data warehouse source

  1. Click Data Sources in the Model menu.

    The Data Source Object Editor opens.

  2. Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object on the toolbar to create a new data warehouse source.

    Note: Use the Enter filter text text box to filter a very large list of data warehouse sources to quickly locate the one you want to work with.

  3. Complete the following fields on the General tab:
    Data Source System

    Specifies the name of the system in which the data source is located.

    Data Source Host

    Specifies the host name where the data source is located.

    Data Source DBMS Type

    Specifies the DBMS type in which the source data is located.

    Data Source DBMS Version

    Specifies the DBMS version in which the source data is located.

    Data Source Type

    Specifies whether the source data is relational or from a flat file.

    Data Source Server

    Specifies the name of the host server for the source data.

  4. Enter a definition for the source selected in the Definition tab.
  5. Click Close.

    The data warehouse source is saved and the Data Source Object Editor closes.
