Create a DB2 LUW Server

You define a server to define a data source to a federated database. Use options in the DB2 for LUW Server Editor to create a DB2 LUW Server.

To define a DB2 server

  1. Right-click a Server in the Model Explorer and select Properties.

    The DB2 for LUW Server editor opens.

  2. Select a server name and work with the following options:

    Note: Click New New icon in property editors to create a new object on the toolbar to create a server name. Use the Enter filter text text box to filter a large list of names to locate the one you want to work with.

    Name

    Names the data source that is being defined to the federated database.

    Server Type

    Specifies the type of data source that the server definition represents. Enter a value in the server type box.

    Is Default

    Specifies whether or not the server definition is to be treated as Server Type.

    Generate

    Specifies whether or not to generate DDL for this object during Forward Engineering.

  3. On the General tab, indicate the following properties:
    Server Version

    Specifies the version of the data source denoted by server-name.

    Wrapper

    Specifies the wrapper that the federated server uses to interact with the server. Select a wrapper from the drop-down list, or click the New icon in the drop-down list to create a wrapper Id.

    User Id

    Associates a User Id with the server. Select a User Id from the drop-down list, or click the New icon in the drop-down list to create a User Id.

  4. Click the Server Options tab to indicate the options that are enabled when the server definition is created. Work with the following options:
    Name

    Specifies the option, for example, DBNAME, COLLATING_SEQUENCE.

    Value

    Specifies a value for the option, for example, Clients, Y.

  5. Click the Permission tab to specify permissions for a selected server.
  6. Click the Comment tab and enter any comments you want to associate with the server.
  7. Click the Where Used tab to review where the selected server is used.
  8. Click the UDP tab to work with user-defined properties for the server.
  9. Click the Notes tab to view history information and view or edit user notes.
  10. Click Close.

    The new server is created and the DB2 for LUW Server Editor closes.
