Add an Incomplete Subtype Relationship

When all categories may not be known, add an incomplete subtype relationship in a logical model to connect an entity that defines the category and two or more additional entities that define each of the elements of the category.

To add an incomplete subtype relationship

  1. Click the Complete Subcategory icon Sub-category button on ERwin Toolbox on the ERwin Toolbox.

    The cursor changes.

  2. Click the parent entity in the relationship, then click the first child entity.

    The subtype relationship is created.

  3. Click the Complete Subcategory Sub-category button on ERwin Toolbox icon on the ERwin Toolbox, click the erw_hlp--incomplete subtype rel notation--SCR symbol on the relationship, then click another child entity.

A subtype is added. Repeat for each child that you want to add as a subtype.

  4. Right-click the erw_hlp--incomplete subtype rel notation--SCR symbol and click Subtype Properties.

    The Subtype Properties dialog opens.

  5. Select the Incomplete type option and click OK.

An incomplete subtype relationship is added and the Subtype Properties dialog closes.
