The Datatype Standards Editor

Use the Datatype Standards Editor to edit the default data type mapping for your logical and physical models. For physical models, you can edit the default data type that is automatically attached to each column. For logical models, you can add logical data types and assign the data types to the attributes in the logical model.

To open the Datatype Standards Editor, click Standards, Datatype Standards on the Tools menu.

You define the data type mapping standards by specifying how logical data types map to the available data types for your target server. If you have database applications running on multiple server platforms, you can map data types for all of the target servers. Data type mapping information is saved in a data type standards file (*.dsm). For each model in which you use data type standards, you must attach a data type standards file. If you open a model and you have not attached a data type standards file, the default data type mapping is used.
