IE Modeling Notation

If you use Information Engineering (IE) notation for data modeling, you can use different symbols to represent objects in a model. The standard IE notation has been modified slightly to take advantage of certain program features. For example, you can use a solid line to represent an identifying relationship and a dotted line to represent a non-identifying relationship, which is not a standard IE notation convention.

The toolbox that displays when you use IE notation contains a group of buttons that you use to perform common tasks. A different toolbox displays when you work in a logical model or physical model.
