ABSOLUTE POINT ERROR. DDNAME=(xxx) DSN=(ddd) BLKID=(bbb) CODE=(ccc) REASON=(rrr)

Reason:

During Restore, Recover, or Merge processing, CADisk failed when attempting to position itself within an archive data set. The code value (ccc) and reason value (rrr) indicate the error and reason information returned from the POINTmacro. The BLKID indicates the destination on the tape where the POINT macro was attempting to locate.

Action:

If the reason for the POINT failure cannot be determined, contact CA Technical Support for assistance.

The label and catalog information for the archive data set will be needed to determine the cause of failure. Do not discard or copy the archive data set until the reason for failure is determined.

A RETRY is initiated attempting to correctly position the tape. The retry consists of setting the PRV in the BLKID to 00, and reissuing the POINT. This causes the tape drive to rewind and search for the requested block from the beginning of the tape. One of the following continuation messages is then issued:

ABSOLUTE POINT RETRY FAILED. DDNAME=(xxx) DSN=(ddd) BLKID=(bbb) RC=(rc)-(rs)

Reason:

The automatic RETRY for a failing POINT has failed. Processing of this archive data set is terminated, but processing of other archive data sets will continue.

ABSOLUTE POINT RETRY SUCEEDED. DDNAME=(xxx) DSN=(ddd) BLKID=(bbb)

Reason:

The automatic RETRY for a failing POINT has been successful. Processing of this archive data set will continue.
