Reason:
The 3480 tape drives being used for output are in compatibility mode instead of full function mode. This prevents CADisk from emptying the data buffers at the appropriate times to guarantee that all data from an input tape volume has been successfully copied to the new 3480 cartridge. When the 3480 is used in compatibility mode, its data buffers are guaranteed to be emptied only when the cartridge is successfully closed. If an abend occurs, the amount of data in the buffers (not successfully copied forward) is unknown. Therefore, to ensure that no data has been lost, the input tape should be saved and reprocessed.
(When the 3480s are in full function mode, CADisk uses the additional features to ensure that data buffers are emptied at appropriate times to maintain data integrity, without the need for any reprocessing.)
