VOLUME (vvv) REJECTED AS A SCRATCH TAPE - STILL IN ARCHVOLS FILE. SEE MESSAGE GUIDE FOR RECOVERY.

Reason:

An archive tape volume (vvv) was mounted as scratch but was found to still exist in the ARCHVOLS file as a valid archive tape. The tape cannot be used as an archive scratch tape until the data sets on it are either purged from the index (index maintenance function) or copied to another tape. This tape has been rejected and another scratch tape requested. This condition is caused by either not keeping the CADisk index synchronized with the scratch tapes, or an operator error in mounting the tape.

Action:

REQUIRED! Since the tape was mounted as an output scratch tape, an output label was written at the beginning of the tape. CADisk then attempted to insert the tape volume into the ARCHVOLS and discovered that it was already there (from a prior use of the tape).

If the data on the tape (from the prior use) is no longer valid, use the index maintenance PURGE command to remove the tape from the ARCHVOLS. If the data is still valid, all but the first data set on the tape can be recovered by using the Archive Fix Utility.

Note: For more information, see the section See Archive Fix Utility in the Systems Guide.
