How to Modify Your Directory Configuration to Use DXmanager
These instructions assume that you do not need to redesign the directory backbone, and that you need only to convert your existing design into the new format.
To modify your CA Directory installation to use DXmanager, follow these steps:
- Gather data about the directory:
- Record the business reasons for the directory.
- Analyze all applications.
- Copy the configuration files from the production environment.
- Install CA Directory in the test environment
See the Installation Guide for what to install on each computer.
- Configure the test environment:
- Start DXmanager.
- Configure a new directory backbone:
- Add any more regions, sites, or hosts.
- Add any more namespace partitions.
- Add more DSAs.
- Deploy the configuration.
- Check the test environment.
- Export the new configuration to an XML file.
- Upgrade the production environment:
- Back up the directory's configuration and data.
- Install CA Directory in the production environment
- Start DXmanager.
- Import the new XML configuration.
- Update the host addresses.
- Deploy the configuration.
- Test the production environment to determine that CA Directory is functioning as you expect and that the upgrade is complete.
If there is a problem, you can roll back the production environment to the previous configuration and resolve the problem using the test environment.
