Migration Setup

When automating a migration, you must define where DMM Director will build the migration and data directories on your network. These two directories can be located on the same server, or on separate servers on your network. You must ensure that the computers you migrate using this automated process have access to these directory structures.

Follow these steps:

  1. Enter the file path and name for the location of the Migration directory in the Migration Directory field. This path is used to set a number of different options in your migration files.

Director Setup automatically copies all necessary files to execute the configured automated migration into the Migration directory. The Migration directory contains, depending on other options set, CA DMM (DDNARUN and DDNAInst folders), source and destination migration files, shortcuts for migrating the source and destination computer, autoDNA.exe, and the specified template file.

Note: Ensure that the source and destination systems have unlimited access to the Migration directory. We recommend that you specify a UNC path and not mapped drive letters to avoid access issues at the time of migration.

  2. Enter the file path and name for the location of the data directory in the Data Directory field. This path is used for gathering dynamic information related to each migration such as logs and DNA files.

DMM Director automatically creates a directory and folder structure to contain the DNA files and the related log files. The Data directory is created on the first migration performed using DMM Director.

Note: Ensure that the source and destination systems have unlimited access to the Data directory. We recommend that you specify a UNC path and not mapped drive letters to avoid issues of access at the time of migration.
