Deferred Migration

The Deferred Migration page displays if you selected a deferred migration on the Migration Type page. You must define a naming method for the migration folder used to store the DNA files from each migration. This page also lets you define how the correct DNA file is identified to apply to a destination workstation.

The Deferred Migration page covers the relevant options under the Store and Apply group boxes. The Store group box allows you to specify where the DNA file is saved when it is created on the source computer. The source DNA must have a unique name (including path) to prevent it from being overwritten in the data directory. The Apply group box allows you to specify where the DNA file is retrieved from the Data directory to apply to the destination computer.

Note: In most circumstances using the computer name or user name is going to be unique. However, there might be circumstances when it is not unique, such as if your enterprise does not require unique computer names, or user names. In that case, you can ask the user to name the directory for the DNA based on an enterprise standard. The text entered by the user is used to name the directory.

To specify the required information

  1. Select an option from the Source group box:
Create folder using the machine name

Stores the DNA file in the Data directory in a folder named with the machine name. Only use if the computer name for the destination is not going to change.

Create folder using the user name

Stores the DNA file in the Data directory in a folder named with the user name. Only use if the computer name for the destination is not going to change.

Ask the user to enter a name for the folder based on the following prompt

Displays a prompt dialog when the migration is initiated on the source workstations (for example, enter your name and department). DMM Director stores the DNA file in the data directory in a folder named with the text the user enters before the migration (for example, Joe Accounting).

  2. Select an option from the Apply group box:
Select folder using the machine name or user name (according to the choice in Store)

Automatically retrieves the DNA file from the Data directory based on either the computer name or the user name. Make sure that the computer or user name is the same as the source name.

Note: Setting this option depends on you selecting the Create folder using the computer name, or Create folder using the user name in the Store group box.

Ask the user to enter a name for the folder based on the following prompt

Displays a prompt dialog to the user when the migration is initiated on the destination workstations (for example, enter your name and Department). DMM Director locates the correct DNA file in the Data directory to apply from the user input (for example, Joe Accounting).
