If the application installs with InstallShield, you can find all of the keys and files installed by examining the ISU file. Use the InstallShield 5.5 Professional Edition InstallShield Log File Viewer.
For non-InstallShield installations, use a program like InControl or InstallWatch to determine the changes on your system during the installation.
For settings changes, use a tool like Prism Deploy to take a picture of the registry and files before making settings changes. After you complete the installation, use Prism Deploy to take a new picture of changes to the registry and files. Compare the two pictures to understand the changes made by the installation of the new application.
