Working with DMM Templates
Template Editor gives you the flexibility to customize your DMM templates. Remember the following points while working with the Template Editor:
- Your template file can have the selections that may not exist on your system. For example, when you select users to migrate, you can add domain or local users that are not on the machine or network on which you are working. When adding applications, all the applications migrated by CA DMM are shown for selection whether or not they exist on your system. Additionally, directories can be added that are not on your system but may appear on other systems.
- All the criteria allow you to add from a selection list to the template by clicking Add or Add Option for each migration criterion. You can also remove items that are in a template by selecting the item and clicking Delete.
- Trees within the Template Editor and CA DMM have a special property. If you select a parent item in a tree, such as background, the template always picks all the items under background even if more are eventually added or appear on that system.
- Alternatively, if you pick all the children of an item, the template migrates only the selected items. The parent is disabled indicating that all sub-items have not been selected. This means that any new items that might appear on other systems are not migrated.
- You cannot use the percent (%) sign character in the name of a template file. Template files do not load if the file name contains a % sign because the % sign is not recognized as a valid character in a file name. You cannot use DMM variables, but you can use Windows system variables in template file names.
