Rules for Columns

Result tables R1 and R2 must have the same number of columns.

When UNION is performed, the corresponding columns of the SELECT lists need only be of compatible data types.

Note: In CA Datacom/DB Release 8.0 the corresponding columns were required to be exactly the same data type, that is, the same data type, precision, length and scale.
