TEST Environment

Familiarize yourself with the TEST environment as it is critical for certifying each of the MUF startup option settings before implementation in the PROD environment.

Business Value

This practice allows you to familiarize yourself with the startup options, their parameters, and their overall affect on the TEST environment before attempting the change in the PROD environment. This practice also helps to protect the PROD environment from the unexpected effects from a MUF option change and can avoid unplanned MUF outages.

Additional Considerations

While most sites have a TEST system, there can be a reluctance to set the TEST system options at the same level as the PROD environment. This is especially true for startup options controlling resource consumption (such as buffers or the Memory Resident Data Facility).

Test all significant changes in the TEST system before being applied in the PROD MUF.
