Simplify Mode

The purpose of the DBSYSID Macro parameter SIMPLIFY_MODE=YES is to specify the use of Simplify mode. Simplify mode makes using CA Datacom easier and frees Database Administrator (DBA) resources for other matters, particularly in special situations. Simplify mode protects data sets by making it harder for users to accidentally overlay important information, a situation that would require substantial Database Administrator effort to correct. Therefore, we recommend that if possible you use CA Datacom/DB in the Simplify mode. Depending on your environments, there should be no (or only minimal) problems using the Simplify mode. It is possible that some of the rules and requirements associated with using the Simplify mode could require some effort to set up. Some effort could be required to learn how to use Simplify mode, and some elements of the environment could require changes. That is why Simplify is an option instead of a requirement.

Note: Simplify mode is required for CA Datacom/AD but optional, though recommended, for CA Datacom/DB.

Business Value

A DBA’s time is becoming more valuable as time goes on. Handling special cases can be time consuming. Using the Simplify mode assumes a DBA has the time required to learn and use this new option. The process takes less time for an experienced DBA than for a new one. Because a new DBA has no history or knowledge of what is needed, there is also the possibility that while learning, they could make the problem worse before getting the help needed to correct any errors that were unintentionally made.

The Simplify Mode would prevent the lack of 24x7 MUF availability due to some of the following user errors.
